Land Management

Land disturbance activities, such as construction and renovation projects, may be subject to regulatory permitting.  A project’s size and location will dictate which permits are required.  Many of UConn’s construction activities are subject to one or more state or Federal permitting requirements and involve obtaining construction-related permits such as Flood Management Certifications (FMCs), Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Permits, and General Permits for Discharge of Stormwater and Dewatering Wastewater Associated with Construction Activities.  EHS’s Environmental Team manages such permitting activities and ensures compliance with the conditions set forth in each permit.

During the planning phase, projects that have the potential to significantly impact the environment are subject to the environmental review process prescribed under the Connecticut Environmental Policy Act (CEPA) or in rare cases, when Federal funding is also involved, both CEPA and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  Environmental Programs assists University Planning, Design and Construction (UPDC) in navigating the CEPA and NEPA process for proposed UConn projects, like new buildings or major renovations.
