Leslie has worked at UConn since 1998 as Biological Health and Safety Manager and Institutional Biological Safety Officer. Leslie has a double major Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Anthropology from Stony Brook University, an M.S. in Microbiology/Immunology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP), Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) and Specialist Microbiologist (SM/NRM). With over 30 years experience in the safety field, Leslie is responsible for University compliance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, CT DEP Biomedical Waste Regulation, Select Agent Regulation, NIH Recombinant DNA and CDC Guidelines. Leslie also supervises the University Sanitarian. Prior to coming to UConn, Leslie was the Research Safety Officer (Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, Chemical Hygiene Officer, Biological Safety Officer) at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and Biosafety Specialist at Yale University. Before entering the Safety field full-time, Leslie was Assistant Professor of Biology and research mentor (MARC Honors Program) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.
